After spending more than 20 years devoting her energies to her family: her husband, Scott, her 4 children, Alex, Emma, Nick and Kate and her standard poodle, Sasha, Kathi knew it was time to fulfill her lifelong dream and start a business. In October 2017, The Nest on Main became a reality in Bel Air, MD.
Even as a teenager working at a Hallmark store in Michigan, Kathi knew the importance of treating customers like family. While studying Marketing at Walsh College in Troy, Michigan, she learned the fundamentals of business management. Over the next 2 decades, she had ample opportunity to put her skills to use while raising her family as she became the “go to” mom for organizing, recruiting and coordinating at school, sports and scouts.
Her commitment to her family reflects her commitment to her community. It is far-reaching and long-term. She approaches her customer relationships the same way. Nothing is more important than the customer experience – and if that means going out of her way to ensure his/her satisfaction – then she will always do the right thing.
In addition to large vendors, Kathi’s store showcases the work of almost 30 local artists who display and sell their art. With the help of the artist, her inventory is constantly changing with updates not only seasonally but almost daily.
Recently, while visiting Copenhagen, she encountered the Danish concept of Hygge (hoo-gah) which loosely translates as “creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people.” This influenced her inspiration for The Nest on Main. Her goal is to create a space where people feel safe and comfortable while being inspired to enhance their personal lives with simple comforts and pleasures. Evidently, she nailed it as the response around Harford County shows that The Nest on Main is here to stay.
